Lions follow
Brooks, take giant
step - Behind the
leadership of Nick
Brooks, top-ranked
Auburn Mountainview
has its eye on the
school's first state
baseball
championship.

There
were many, many days
when Auburn
Mountainview High
School coach Glen
Walker questioned
where he and his
baseball program
were headed. Walker
has been at the helm
since the school
opened in 2006, but
the first three
years were more
choppy than smooth.
"I really struggled
with that decision:
'Maybe it's time to
give it up'," Walker
said. "I'm working
too hard, I'm too
stressed out, and
it's affecting my
family life. There
were a lot of dark
days. "In looking
back, those tough
years made these
last four or so
years that much more
special."
Particularly this
year. Auburn
Mountainview (24-3)
enters this
weekend's Class 3A
state semifinals in
Pasco as the
top-ranked team in
the state. The Lions
have won eight
straight and made it
past the first round
of the state
playoffs for the
first time. "I knew
that we were going
to be good," Walker
said. "But one or
two kids make a huge
impact on the team's
success. One person
in particular for us
this season was Nick
Brooks."

Forward to Pasco:
Mount Si baseball
once again state
bound after
clinching
doubleheader |
Slideshow
May 22, 2013 · 1:27 PM - Snoqualmie Valley Record
It all came down to a single hit. With the score tied, two-all, two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the second, Nick Adams was in the hot seat, hoping to stave off an overtime battle with a dangerous North Thurston team. Adams nailed it, hitting a fielder’s choice grounder to second, and runner Evan Johnson made it safely to second, allowing Joey Cotto to cruise home for his second run in the crucial regional's game. “I feel a lot better now,” said Adams, after a wild celebratory huddle on the field. The Rams’ pitcher “hung one, so I rolled over on it,” said Adams. “I got a nice jump and slid in way safe.” “I knew the game was over,” said Cotto. “Evan, he looks pretty big, but he’s speedy. There’s no way that guy’s gonna get him.” The win, powered by runs by Cotto and number-two hitter and shortstop Carson Breshears, sends Mount Si on another fateful journey to the state semifinals this year in Pasco. Mount Si beat the Rams, 3-2, then went on to deal with Meadowdale, 7-2, in a doubleheader Saturday, May 18, at Bellevue’s Bannerwood Park. Chase Kairis pitched against the Rams, while Connor Swift did duty against the Meadowdale Mavericks. CONTINUE ARTICLE

Mount Si baseball
ends Meadowdale’s
Cinderella bid

All
Cinderella stories
have to end at some
point. For the
Meadowdale baseball
team, it ended
during the Class 3A
regional final at
Bannerwood Park on
Saturday, in a 7-2
loss to Mount Si.
After ace pitcher
Elliott Reece tossed
a five-hitter in a
3-1 win over

Mavericks’ limited
bullpen was helpless
against the
Wildcats’ relentless
offense. The KingCo
3A champions, who

their regional
opener, pounded

semifinals.
Meadowdale and Mount

Mount Si fans, meet who the Wildcat boys will be likely facing on the mound Friday for West Seattle in the state 3A baseball semifinals
The YouTube video we have for you this morning is of a pitcher that Mount Si will most likely be facing Friday in the state 3A baseball semifinals. West Seattle’s Sam Hellinger is considered to be among the top pitchers in the Metro League. He is 6-2 on the season with a 2.08 earned run average, and in 67 1/3 innings, he has walked just 16 and struck out 80 for the Wildcats to help them to their first ever state semifinals. This video features clips from games last summer involving the pitcher. It runs just over 16 minutes. Enjoy the clip. VIEW CLIP

Auburn Mountainview
reaches 3A
semifinals

Senior Nick Brooks’
walk-off RBI single
lifted top-ranked
Auburn Mountainview
past Decatur 9-8 in
the state 3A
baseball
quarterfinals at
Centralia on
Saturday. The Lions
(24-3) will play
Kennewick at 1 p.m.
this Friday in the
state semifinals at
GESA Stadium in
Pasco. A win puts
the Lions into the
title game at 4 p.m.
this Saturday
against the survivor
of the Mount Si-West
Seattle semifinal,
which is set for
10am Friday. Auburn
Mountainview, as it
did in the district
playoffs, pulled out
another game in
dramatic fashion.
The Gators (17-11)
had taken an 8-6
lead into the
seventh inning, but
the Lions responded.
Brice McCulloch led
off the bottom of
the seventh with a
double. Matt
Anderson singled
before shortstop
Tyler Friis tied the
game on a clutch
two-run single up
the middle. The
Lions then loaded
the bases on a walk,
single and fielder's
choice, setting the
stage for Brooks,
the South Puget
Sound League 3A
Player of the Year,
who connected on the
game-winning hit. It
was the Lions’ fifth
win in six meetings
against their SPSL
rivals this season.
Decatur shortstop
Isaiah Hatch, who
played for Auburn
Little League during
its dream season
that culminated at
Williamsport, Pa.,
in 2010, homered
twice in the game.
Auburn Mountainview
opened the state
regional at Ed
Wheeler Field in
Centralia with a 2-0
victory against
Glacier Peak. Brooks
threw a
complete-game
shutout, striking
out 10. McCulloch
hit an RBI double in
the second inning.

Mount Si baseball seniors enjoy a memorable day on the diamond in advance of their prom night with regional round wins; now it’s on to the semis Posted on May 19, 2013 by Rhett Workman
Last night was prom night for Mount Si High School, and for many of the school’s seniors, it was undoubtedly a memorable experience they will never forget. But for the seniors who are part of the Wildcat baseball team, the memories made at the prom only add to the memories they will have of a season that now sees them on the way possibly to another state title, their second in three years if they get it done, after winning the regional round in Bellevue yesterday. North Thurston
comes up short of
baseball Final Four
Staff report -
Published May 19,
2013 - The Olympian
Mount Si took
advantage of four
North Thurston
errors Saturday to
edge the Rams, 3-2,
in the regional
round of the Class
3A state baseball
tournament at
Bannerwood Park in
Bellevue. “We just
had far too many
critical errors
today,” North
Thurston coach Lance
Baker said. Mount Si
picked up the win
with a two-out,
bases-loaded single
in the bottom of the
seventh inning. “We
went for the force
out at second, and
we were just a
little late on it,”
Baker said. “It’s a
tough loss to end
our season on. “We
don’t make those
errors, it’s a 2-1
game, and we are
still playing.”
